We have covered refilling bic lighters, some of the best fire starters, and now to something a little different, a review of the Aurora Tinder Solar Fire Starter.

Aurora is a solar fire starter (or rather a tinder lighter) that uses the energy of the sun’s rays to produce a flame.

This most authentic firelighter fits effortlessly in a pouch or pocket with its 6.3 cm in diameter for only 110 grams.

It comes in the form of an open reflective disc in aeronautical aluminum which allows the sun’s rays to be focused on 1 point and thus to light leaves, dried grass, or any other tinder.

Its disk can also be used as a backup mirror.

Its box can store tinder, then use solar to ignite the fire. Can also be used as a signaling mirror for a survival scenario.

Created with grade-quality airplane aluminum. No parts or pieces are required, just use it the way it was intended. No need for anything else so it is very handy to use.

It’ll work with dried materials too. Leaves, wood bark, twigs, dead grass.

Bottom Line

Not something you absolutely need to add to your kit right away, but as far as reliability is concerned, it will work on days that are bright and sunny with no clouds.

Retaining a bit of everything when it comes to survival equipment certainly helps, and when you have extra gadgets for stuff like fire starting it does not hurt to find different methods of producing fire, rather than the good old traditional way of lighting a fire.
